Steve Metzger
Steve has over 35 years technical, sales, and executive management experience in public and private communications services, networks and design. He has developed numerous services in telecom, datacom, and the Internet. Steve has rich experience in operational support and billing systems. Prior to founding VT&T, Steve was CEO of Waller Creek Communications, an Austin, Texas, based fiber optic wholesaler of broadband services. His background includes several startups as well as positions with ROLM, IBM, AT&T, Harris, and Fujitsu. Steve is a National Trustee for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and through his foundation, supports cancer research and other causes.
John Seely Brown
John is currently a visiting scholar at the Annenberg Center at USC. He was the Chief Scientist of Xerox Corporation until April 2002 and also the director of the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) until June 2000—a position he held for twelve years. While head of PARC, Brown expanded the role of corporate research to include such topics as organizational learning, complex adaptive systems, micro electrical mechanical system (MEMS) and NANO technology. His personal research interests include digital culture and rich media (both of which he pursues at USC), ubiquitous computing, web service architectures and organizational and individual learning. The recipient of honorary PhDs from Brown University and the London Business School, Dr. Seely Brown is the author of many influential publications on learning, including ''Learning in the Digital Age'' (2002) and ''The Social Life of Learning: How can Continuing Education be Reconfigured in the Future'' (2002).
Michael Clair
Mr. Michael Clair was appointed to the Board in August 2007 and was elected Chairman of the Board of Phoenix Technologies Ltd in January 2008. He also chairs both the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and the Compensation Committee. Mr. Clair is a technology investor and consultant to Silicon Valley companies. From 1996 until its sale to Nokia in 2006, Mr. Clair was Chairman of the Board of Intellisync Corporation. He has held senior and executive management positions at Tymshare Inc., ROLM Corporation and SynOptics Communications, Inc., which he co-founded. He currently serves on the boards of a number of privately-held technology companies, including Corfino and NDS Surgical Imaging. He is also on the Board of the NCGA Foundation, and the west coast Board of the V Foundation for cancer research. Mr. Clair holds a B.S. in Business and Finance and an MBA in Operations Research from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Jean Kovacs
Kovacs has over 25 years experience directing technology companies. She recently retired from AT&T, where she was a senior executive in the Sterling Commerce business of AT&T. Before joining Sterling Commerce, she was president and CEO for Comergent, where she both drove the company’s overall strategy and oversaw the company’s daily operations. Comergent was acquired by Sterling Commerce in 2007. Prior to co-founding Comergent, she was co-founder and executive vice president of Qualix Group, where she was closely involved in the company's initial public offering. In 2008, she was named one of the “Most Influential Women in Business” by the San Francisco Business Times. Kovacs is also an active member of the San Francisco community, including her position as the chairman of the board of BUILD, and as host of the Kovacs Zoltan Memorial Chess Tournament. Ms. Kovacs holds a bachelor's degree from Northeastern University and a master's degree from Harvard University.
Michael Phillips, Morrison and Foerster
Michael C. Phillips specializes in the financing and structuring of start-up and other emerging businesses and in merger and acquisition transactions and other complete strategic relationships for public and private companies at all stages of their development.Mr. Phillips has handled the initial public offerings of several key clients as well as general representation of many start-up companies in various areas of high technology. From 1998-2003, Mr. Phillips was Senior Vice-President, Business Development and General Counsel at JDS Uniphase Corporation. His experience in turn provides clients of Morrison & Foerster with an opportunity to obtain counsel during critical stages of an acquisition or other ssignificant transaction from a lawyer who has an understanding of their responsibilities as a client and the business risks associated with any successful acquisition or complex commercial relationship.
Mr. Phillips rejoined Morrison & Foerster in 2003 after his five year stint at JDS Uniphase.
